Management Natürlicher Ressourcen

Management Natürlicher Ressourcen

Natural resources, in particular soil, water, animal and plant diversity and sources of renewable energy provide services for ecosystems and the climate. Conservation and sustainable management are of major significance for the structure and functioning of agricultural systems and the sustainability of life on Earth. Until recently, the emphasis has been closely focused on the enhancement of productivity, often ignoring the importance of management in a holistic way that promotes security in nutrition, supply and distribution. System-specific management concepts now offer the opportunity of addressing multifaceted issues related to the complexity of food production in different cultural and ecological contexts. Although a substantial degradation of natural resources occurs at the global level, positive initiatives and experiences now have valuable effect at the local level.

Although technical knowledge is well-developed, good solutions are frequently not put into practical view due to institutional reasons. The IAASTD covers and recognizes the relationship between humans and the environment. In order to overcome structural hurdles in sustainable management of natural resources, it advocates above all procedural changes in the areas of co-management and participation in a holistic and multi-scale basis.

This workshop will be held in German.
