Terra Madre Day 2010!

On December 9th, 2010 the student intitiave FRESH will present an Earth Market on the University of Hohenheim campus, so that consumers and students can connect directly with local producers. In doing so, it will be shown that organic quality, diversity and food culture is available locally. Following the motto “Good, Clean, Fair and next door”, the producers should illustrate on campus the quality of their produce and take individually responsibility for their own work. It will be more than just a place to go shopping. It is also the opportunity to try, taste and stimulate the taste buds! It also provides insight into how food is produced, a central value.

The idea for the Earth Market was inspired by Terra Madre, an event created by Slow Food, a network of over 6,000 small farmers, chefs, food activists, students, academics, fishermen and many more who meet every two years in Turin, Italy. They discuss sustainable methods of food production, as well as nature and tradition and preservation of the taste and variety of food. To continue spreading the message, December 10th was chosen as a day to celebrate Terra Madre! On this day over 1,000 actions all over the world will be supporting and celebrating Terra Madre. In Hohenheim we will start a little early, but with the hopes that we will inspire you to celebrate on the 10th and that you will help us spread awareness further, while bringing you organic produce directly from the farm down the road.

2) Every student or employee of the university of Hohenheim passes by here when crossing the campus at midday. Today it's Terra Madre Day here!

	3) Curious students pass by the first stall of FRESH, decorated with huge Brussels sprouts!

4) Sense various spices and guess their name by smelling. How good is are your senses? And besides: Do you know the name of these seeds? For the winners we had a FRESH-bracelet and a Terra Madre Day button or sticker.

	5) Pumpkin marmelade - produced out of pumpkin which we grew on our own directly besides the student dorm in Schwertstr.

6) Bio-dynamic vegetables from next door, the Hof am Eichenhain in Riedenberg provides us fresh and tasty veggies.

8) The Ökoumenische Hochschulgemeinde Hohenheim (ÖHG) also joined us for the first Earth Market with their mobile fair trade stand: Exotic spices, tea, coffe and more, all traded FAIR!

22) During the whole day we collected funds for a small South-African NGO. Grootbos Foundation is teaching local women how to earn a living by growing organic. But the project lacks an oven to prepare their own veggies. We want to help them.

	23) We protest against FOOD that is FAST, ARTIFICALLY CHEAP AND INDUSTRIALLY PRODUCED! We demand FOOD, that is GOOD, CLEAN AND FAIR!

Und viele haben zum ersten Mal gesehen wie Rosenkohl wächst.Es waren auch viele sehr interessiert zu wissen von welchem Hof das Gemüse jetzt kommt und haben sich gleich mal die Adresse geben lassen."
